The global pandemic has had a huge effect on every part of our lives. For me, this of course includes art. COVID-19 has changed a lot of my art habits and practices in many ways.
More Time
Before the pandemic, I found it difficult to squeeze art into my schedule. But with school going online and extracurricular classes being cancelled, I found myself with a lot more free time than before. This was time I was able to devote to making art. This led to making more and more content. At one point, I was consistently drawing in my sketchbook every day!
Sharing More
The increase in the amount of art I created made me want to share my accomplishments with others. This was a driving factor in my decision to launch this website!
Later on, Less Motivation
The stress of the pandemic definitely had an impact on my art habits. Although I initially had a burst of motivation and excitement, it got harder as time went by. Sometimes it was difficult to find the motivation to paint, especially during online school. I tried to deal with this by allowing myself time for breaks.
Long Term Projects
I really dove into long term projects during the pandemic. For example, I was able to complete Inktober, experiment with portrait painting, and more. There was less of an obligation to finish and display work quickly, and more time to hone and develop specific skills.
Organizing
I sorted through tons of old art, dated and labelled everything, organized old sketchbooks, and got rid of unused art supplies. I was able to sort and organize a lot of content, making my art practice easier to navigate.
More Pieces Outside my Sketchbook
During the pandemic, I started creating a lot more art outside of my sketchbook. I had longer, continuous periods of time to work on separate pieces. This resulted in a lot more work to list on my shop!
Revisiting Old Art
Before the pandemic, I had been making a lot of sketches and drawings with markers. But recently I started to feel nostalgic for the acrylic paintings I used to make. I was able to dive back into this old passion and really increase my skill in the area.
